De’Von Achane
De’Von Achane made waves as an electrifying rookie fantasy running back, finishing among the top-10 in both points and yards from scrimmage. A 2023 third-round pick, Achane has continued his stellar play this year but may face challenges as the Dolphins transition to an up-tempo offense. While his small frame and injury history restrict his long-term potential, Achane should still be worth selecting in most formats.
Achane earned his highest rushing yards total ever during Week 18’s loss to the Jets while simultaneously failing to record any targets or receptions – one bright spot for Miami in an otherwise dismal finish to 2024 season. PPR leaguers can utilize his services, as he frequently finds opportunities between 20- and 10-yard lines.
Achane has excelled during both seasons with the Dolphins, rushing 306 times for 1,707 yards while also catching 105 passes for 789 yards en route to 23 touchdowns scored during those seasons. While Achane remains an attractive option in PPR formats, his production may decline if they shift more towards passing than running play.
The Dolphins have experienced numerous injuries at running back, and Achane is expected to start in Week 17. He should see ample playing time, although his workload could be divided with Raheem Mostert or Jaylen Wright; furthermore, Achane will likely encounter several short-yardage situations which limit his opportunities for big plays.
Achane’s per-touch efficiency is impressive, yet maintaining this level will prove challenging for him to attain over time. His immense upside could make him a league-winner but his small frame and injury history hinder long-term success. Fantasy managers considering Achane should balance the high risk/high reward nature of his draft-day value by investing in more stable backs with less injury risks to complement Achane, to provide their lineups with additional security.
Kenny Stills
Kenny Stills has been an outstanding contributor for the Dolphins on the field, but his numbers have not met expectations. His average yard per catch falls short of league standards and his play at receiving position has been inconsistent. Stills has nonetheless left an impressionful mark upon his teammates with his overall play and willingness to fight for every ball they catch, making Stills an invaluable asset as they battle for playoff contention.
The Dolphins face an uphill climb to make the playoffs this year, and will need a victory against the 49ers to keep their chances alive. Both teams currently stand at 6-8 and a loss would put both in jeopardy of missing them for the first time since 2020. With 49ers coming off an emotional loss against Rams last week, this matchup should prove intense.
Kader Kohou’s late interception stopped a potential touchdown for San Francisco, giving Miami a 17-10 lead with less than three minutes remaining in the third quarter. They would go on to add one field goal before the period closed out; and Brock Purdy completed pass to Jauan Jennings allowed Deebo Samuel an easy score, concluding halftime proceedings.
The second half began much more positively for the Dolphins as Tua Tagovailoa completed an impressive drive that ended with Tyreek Hill receiving a 23-yard touchdown pass from Tua Tagovailoa; however, two penalties nullified this touchdown and on subsequent series he failed to connect due to Maliek Collins’ aggressive rush on Tagovailoa’s deep ball attempt.
Stills grabbed a 22-yard touchdown reception from Ryan Tannehill on the following possession. Stills showed off his speed on this play by sprinting past multiple defensive backs to make his grab.
The Dolphins have an excellent chance of victory this game, but must improve on their offensive side of the ball to secure their success. Limit mistakes and create more plays on offense which have been major problems all season.
Jauan Jennings
Jennings shows great promise as he embarks on his rookie season in 2024. As an outstanding blocking tight end and capable receiver with an expansive catch radius, he makes him difficult for defenses to cover one-on-one and is an effective kick returner.
He has an exceptional sense of the game and smart playing abilities, possessing strong instincts to put himself into prime positions to make plays. A fierce competitor who prides themselves on hard competition makes this an invaluable teammate to work with; additionally he’s very fast which could prove advantageous on open fields.
When they face off against the Dolphins on Thursday, the 49ers face an uphill battle. Both teams currently stand at 6-8 and any loss would likely mean playoff elimination for one side or both. While they have shown improvement throughout this year, the 49ers still have not managed to break through and claim some victories yet.
In the opening quarter, the 49ers took an early 7-0 advantage on a Brock Purdy touchdown pass to Jauan Jennings; however, Dolphins responded quickly with a field goal before halftime.
After receiving a punt, Jason Sanders of the Dolphins kicked a short field goal to open up the second half. On their following possession, however, the 49ers were forced to punt after three-and-outs forced them out again on third down; on fourth down as well, running back Patrick Taylor was deemed short of first down; they decided not to challenge this ruling and punted again on fourth down due to it not affecting third down punting attempts.
As the score was 13-10, the Dolphins drove to San Francisco 49ers’ 33-yard line but an unsuccessful field goal attempt by safety Nick Bosa resulted in their possession at their own 10-yard line instead.
The 49ers managed to move into the red zone, but turned over possession with 10 seconds remaining after turning it over on downs in their end zone – meaning that Miami moved up from 7-8 to remain playoff contender while they dropped down to 6-9 and the loss for them.
Dwight Clark
Dwight Clark is an NFL icon and San Francisco 49ers icon, having served for nine seasons as wide receiver before winning two Super Bowls with them. Clark became widely known for “The Catch”, his touchdown reception during an NFC Championship game against Dallas Cowboys that propelled them into their inaugural Super Bowl win in 1982. Following this he retired after 1987 season before going on to serve as team GM – retiring his jersey number 87 to honor his legacy.
On Sunday, the 49ers held a special practice to commemorate Clark and honor his legacy. Many players, coaches, and front office members attended, some wearing jerseys bearing his number 87 to mark his career and his impactful legacy. Also present were representatives from organizations supporting those living with ALS such as Augie’s Quest.
The 49ers selected Clark in the 10th round of the 1979 NFL Draft. A versatile player who excelled as both punter and kick returner, Clark went on to be part of both their Super Bowl teams while becoming one of history’s greatest wide receivers.
After retiring, he joined the Cleveland Browns organization as Senior Vice President and served on its board of directors. Furthermore, he remains active as a philanthropist by contributing his time and funds to many worthy causes throughout his life.
He currently owns and directs the Dwight Clark Foundation, which has raised more than $2 Million for charity. Clark’s goal for his foundation is to raise awareness about ALS and other neurological conditions while funding research into them and care of patients affected.
San Francisco has struggled to score this year and their ineffective offense is taking a toll on their record. They may fall to their fourth straight loss – which would be the longest such streak in franchise history – with penalties and missed red zone opportunities becoming issues during Sunday’s 29-17 loss to Miami Dolphins.
