Malik Beasley
The Brooklyn Nets enter their matchup against the Detroit Pistons Thursday with momentum on their side. They have won two of three games at Barclays Center recently and look to continue this winning streak by beating Detroit Pistons. Brooklyn are currently 3.5 point favorites with an over/under set at 212 points; Stats Insider has run 10,000 simulations of this match-up and forecasted they would prevail 110-101 according to each team’s average simulation scores.
The Pistons will be without key players like Cade Cunningham, who sustained an injury against Portland Trail Blazers on Monday, but still pose a threat of winning games without them. Their top-ranked defense and young talents like Tobias Harris, Andre Drummond and Kyle Singler could prove instrumental to victory on court.
At home against the Brooklyn Nets, they will rely heavily on star player Keon Johnson to take control of the matchup and lead by example. He has recently posted impressive numbers against weak-scoring Pistons teams. Cam Thomas and Dorian Finney-Smith will likely also provide significant contributions.
Malik Beasley, who has become an invaluable player recently, should also be monitored. Beasley excels at three-point shooting and can hit multiple shots quickly in succession; additionally, his speed allows him to get into the paint for highlight mix plays.
The Nets have an experienced frontcourt that should be able to match up against Detroit’s size, though their key challenge will lie in limiting turnovers and eliminating mistakes as soon as possible. Malik Beasley and Tobias Harris should deliver strong performances for Detroit.
Cade Cunningham
Cade Cunningham sank 32 points and grabbed seven rebounds as Detroit Pistons beat Brooklyn Nets 118-115 on Wednesday night. Since joining as a regular starter at the start of the season, Cunningham has averaged 23 points, five rebounds, 4.4 assists per game with his four last games for Detroit (at 18-18 with five wins out of six wins).
The Nets suffered their second straight defeat but are still in contention for a playoff berth. Their defense has been excellent while their offense is finally beginning to take form. In the second half, they controlled the paint while keeping Detroit off balance.
Cam Thomas, the Star Player for the Nets, scored 30 points in a fourth-quarter career-best performance and is averaging 28.2 per game this year in fourth-quarter scoring; this is his highest scoring average among NBA teams and will make them tough to defeat when they hit their stride.
On Thursday night at Barclays Center, the Detroit Pistons will look to extend their winning streak against the Brooklyn Nets and win their fifth consecutive game. Although Brooklyn has struggled recently, their home court advantage makes them dangerous opponents.
Both teams possess talented scorers, but the Pistons’ bench has been superior lately. Simone Fontecchio and Marcus Sasser combined for 59 points during their last two games; similarly, both Nets reserves have also contributed well; potentially taking control of this matchup with their reserves.
The game will air live on YES Network at 7:30 p.m. ET and can also be streamed for free through DirecTV Stream (free trial). The Nets have played only 19 conference games this year but have won their past three home contests, improving to 7-19 overall and 3-3 at home.
The Nets will use their suffocating perimeter defense and uptempo offensive scheme to keep Detroit’s Pistons out of the paint, while their uptempo offensive scheme should provide transition opportunities easily. They hope their defensive efforts pay off by holding Detroit to 38 percent shooting; Andre Drummond and Blake Griffin pose a unique challenge on the boards, having collectively amassed 113 rebounds this season including 27 offensive boards between them.
Tosan Evbuomwan
Tonight at Barclays Center, the Detroit Pistons and Brooklyn Nets will meet in an important NBA showdown. The Nets are in the middle of a four-game home stand to keep their playoff hopes alive; currently fourth in the Eastern Conference they need a win against Detroit to stay competitive while facing tough opposition such as Boston Celtics and New Orleans Pelicans rematches in order to be competitive this season.
Last time these teams met, the Pistons easily won 106-92. Will the Nets bounce back this time around? Stats Insider’s leading predictive analytics model gives the Pistons 79% odds of victory by using advanced machine learning and data simulation techniques to simulate every NBA game 10,000 times; also providing betting odds and player props as part of this prediction model.
Tosan Evbuomwan scored 15 points (5-10 FG, 1-1 3Pt and 4-4 Free Throws), eight rebounds, two assists in 29 minutes during Monday’s 110-96 loss against the Kings. Playing under two-way contract with the Nets, Evbuomwan is slowly beginning to show some fantasy value as evidenced by averaged at least 14 points over his last three games and five double-digit scoring performances this season.
He may not be an ideal daily fantasy pick, but could make for an excellent addition in deeper leagues. He offers plenty of potential and is an outstanding defensive contributor – ideal if injured starters require fill-in.
The Pistons displayed impressive defensive strength against the Nets, holding them to only 19 percent 3-point shooting from 3-point range. Detroit’s big men, particularly Andre Drummond and Blake Griffin, stood out, as they combined for 30 rebounds between them. Unfortunately, however, Detroit’s offense was inconsistent as only 9 of 36 3-point attempts were successful during the second half.
The Pistons’ defense will be key in this game against Brooklyn, who boast one of the worst defensive ratings in the league. Detroit must step up its efforts defensively in order to prevent an easy win for Brooklyn and prevent another blowout win for them.
Ron Holland
Detroit Pistons defeated Brooklyn Nets 113-99 on Monday night at home, dominating on the offensive glass with 17 offensive rebounds — their highest total since November 2024! Meanwhile, this loss marked their second straight and ended their nine-game winning streak.
Day’Ron Sharpe led the Nets with 16 points and 13 rebounds; however, their defensive struggles proved too much for them to overcome, giving Detroit an 11-1 edge over their last 10 games.
Detroit took an early 59-52 lead when Brandon Knight scored two 3-pointers as part of a 31-4 run to take a 59-52 advantage into halftime. Their lead expanded further until Brandon Knight hit two 3-pointers again for Detroit in the fourth, however their deficit eventually narrowed back down to 15 points by end of third period but rallied in fourth to trim their lead down to 111-104.
Holland may be the youngest player in the draft, but his experience in both the G League and USA Basketball’s junior teams (winning two gold medals ) makes up for it. Holland possesses great court feel, excellent passing abilities and can hit open players when necessary; unfortunately his shooting needs work.
Holland has shown in his short stint with the Pistons that he can be an asset to their franchise, though his shooting must continue to improve for this to be effective. Even with early season difficulties, Holland remains one of the more intriguing prospects available in this draft class.
Pistons guard Keon Johnson also impressed in an impressive debut off the bench, scoring 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting in just nine minutes of action – his performance could lead to greater involvement going forward.
The Pistons currently hold the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference. Although they’ve seen remarkable success this season, recently winning four games to bring their record up to 18-18, playoff contention still seems unlikely for this team this year.
The Detroit Pistons will host the Brooklyn Nets for an NBA basketball game to be shown live on TNT and streamed live through Fox Sports Go.
