RCB vs UP Warriorz
UP Warriorz and Royal Challengers Bengaluru met in one of the season’s most riveting matches, culminating in an intense nailbiter. Sophie Ecclestone shined with two big hits during this match that helped UP win by two points; their head coach Jon Lewis was delighted at her efforts and acknowledged how satisfying it felt to win after seemingly going down in defeat.
Kiran Navgire and Grace Harris gave Uttar Pradesh an aggressive start, scoring quickly to create the illusion that they might reach an impressive total. Unfortunately, RCB came late into the game and managed to significantly slow down UP’s run rate; leaving 18 to defend in their last regular match over; but Sophie came out swinging and equalized scores!
She hit sixes off both balls to reduce UP’s deficit to four, before smashing another six over deep midwicket and quickly reaching fifty. Kim Garth and Sneh Rana of RCB tried hard but couldn’t stem the run-flow effectively.
The Super Over was high-octane with both teams showing why they are such dangerous rivals. RCB’s bowling wasn’t particularly spectacular but still managed to take wickets regularly; Sneh Rana, Kim Garth, and Ellyse Perry took two each for them while Chinelle Henry and Poonam Khemnar from UP took one each as well.
Georgia Voll of the UP Warriorz stood out, scoring an unbeaten 99 – the highest total in the tournament – that nearly reached 100 but fell just short when she attempted to steal an extra run at long-on which resulted in being run out. Voll made an outstanding debut WPL appearance and showed why Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) picked her instead of Chamari Athapaththu. She proved herself an invaluable addition to their side.
