RCB

RCB were one of the more expensive franchises entering the IPL in 2008. They acquired Test players in great numbers, looking to win it three times consecutively but falling short each time. Over time, ownership changed hands from Vijay Mallya to Diageo India who brought with them fresh ideas and young talent, although results still varied: twice they finished runners-up.

In 2025, they finally shed the nearly-men tag and won their inaugural competition title under Rajat Patidar’s leadership and with bowling from Bhuvneswar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood leading them. These were key factors.

Batting was also difficult. AB de Villiers, Chris Gayle and Kohli all suffered injuries that forced them out early, which resulted in an embarrassing start that saw RCB at the bottom of the league at halfway stage. A courageous comeback saw them win five out of their next six matches and qualify for playoffs; winning their opening playoff game against Mumbai before being knocked out by reigning champions Mumbai in round 2.

After an inauspicious start, RCB found their groove and won seven of their next 10 matches to finish in the top four. Even after losing to Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator match, they reached the final against Delhi only to lose in an exciting thriller matchup. Though disappointing, this result was an enormous step up over previous campaigns; Kohli’s leadership of RCB means they have an excellent chance at claiming this season’s trophy as they possess one of the highest net run rates among any team competing this year.

Predictions

With a win against KKR, RCB could regain top spot in the IPL table. At present, they sit on 11 points after 12 matches with two wins and three defeats; any setback would put their playoff hopes in jeopardy; however, training throughout IPL break should ensure they will be prepared for this crucial encounter.

Both the batting and bowling departments will be key elements in this match for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Batsmen must play intelligently to take full advantage of the flat and reliable pitch at M Chinnaswamy Stadium while an impressive bowling performance will help the team finish this match with confidence and enter playoffs with an unblemished record.

Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers will be the standout players for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), having shown excellent form this season in particular during powerplays. Both players will look to capitalize on a swift start by building an unshakeable base for other batsmen to build upon. Travis Head will also play an integral part of RCB’s attack by scoring big runs while dominating middle overs of matches.

Varun Chakravarthy will present KKR with an intriguing challenge – his spinnership has been exceptional and is currently their leading wicket-taker with 17 scalps to his name. Chakravarthy will look to continue this run and mislead RCB’s batters into making mistakes that allow Chakravarthy’s spinnerry to come through.

KKR have also been given an enormous boost with the return of Moeen Ali as their star Indian bowler, which will prove a big threat against RCB’s batting lineup and help secure them an impressive total. They will also hope that overseas signings Josh Hazlewood and Phil Salt deliver optimal performances for them.

Losing will mean KKR losing their top position, yet they remain very much in contention to qualify for the playoffs with some wins; their second-best Indian core should give them enough strength to make it to the last four.
