Rajasthan Royals vs Gujarat Titans

Rajasthan Royals had their top four hopes thrown wide open after two straight victories with an emphatic defeat at home against Gujarat Titans, losing by an emphatic scoreline to them on Wednesday. Without Sanju Samson available yet, RR require five more wins to ensure playoff berth.

Dhruv Jurel and Shimron Hetmyer struggled to find their rhythm as the asking rate crept up; perhaps a batting shuffle might unlock their full potential? Meanwhile GT have settled in well enough that they look capable of finishing in top two positions by default.

IPL 2025

Since Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) have both been eliminated from playoff contention, Gujarat Titans’ (GT) hopes of making it into the top two are currently hanging by a thread.

Friday’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Ahmedabad could either help or hinder GT’s chances of making the top four.

The match was initially set to take place in Dharamsala but was postponed due to security concerns following India’s air strikes against terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took this decision.

Although the game will take place elsewhere, plenty is at stake in the contest. First of all, only four of the five teams in the top tier (top four plus fifth-placed team ) will earn two spots into the final four while fifth-placed team has just one shot at making it into an eliminator game.

Additionally, the winner of the contest will receive a Rs 20 crore prize money, while runners-up and third-placed teams will each be given Rs 10 crore and 5 crore, with any leftover prize money being shared among all competing teams.

Though SRH are clear favorites to win this match, GT will hope to give them a run for their money. GT has been an unexpected bright spot this season and must continue their strong performances if they want to remain in the top half.

The Indian Premier League began in 2008 and has become the world’s largest T20 franchise-based tournament since. Originally featuring eight teams, over time there have been various modifications to its structure; Deccan Chargers were terminated from competition in 2012 while Kolkata Knight Riders and Rising Pune Supergiant both decided not to remain members in 2014 and 2016, respectively.

At present, the Indian Premier League features 12 teams organized into two groups of six. Each team plays two matches against their group mates before competing against one another directly in one match each week.

The top four teams from each group will advance to the playoffs, where they will face one another for a match-up that could earn one team the IPL championship and another entry into Champions Trophy.

The winner of each contest will also secure an invitation for further competitions such as World T20 or Champions Trophy. IPL stands as a major event in global cricket, featuring top teams from around the world competing to take home its trophy.

Opening March 22 and concluding June 3, it marks its 18th season. Kolkata Knight Riders currently holds on as champion, followed by Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore as finalists.

Match 1

Rajasthan Royals will be eager to rebound after suffering three consecutive losses that threatened their playoff hopes, so their next matchup comes against Gujarat Titans, who boast one of the more comprehensive bowling units this season – not least Rashid Khan who’s only shown glimpses of his best performance; everyone else on GT’s attack poses real threats whenever given the chance.

Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan’s stellar opening partnership has been unparalleled among IPL teams this season, giving GT a distinct advantage.

Between them, they’ve been responsible for 76% of GT’s runs scored thus far while Jos Buttler has been absent causing issues in their middle order.

But GT’s defeat against Lucknow Super Giants further complicated matters, leaving their top-two finish in doubt.

Now with 17 points on board and in need of a win against CSK to keep hopes alive; should RCB or Punjab Kings win their final league match respectively, either of those sides may surpass GT and send them plummeting down into third or outside the top two positions.

RR have been hindered by injuries to key players like Jofra Archer and Sanju Samson, while Tushar Deshpande’s ineffectiveness is another contributor.

Deshpande has only completed his full quota three out of their five matches which has proved costly; similarly Dhruv Jurel has struggled against spin. A combination of bat shuffle and Archer’s return may enable Jurel to regain his starting XI spot.
