RCB

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have made an impressive comeback after an initial slow start, as evidenced by their nine-wicket victory against Rajasthan Royals at Bengaluru on Thursday and their rise from fourth place in IPL 2025 points table to third.

This victory put RCB ahead of Gujarat Titans and Kolkata Knight Riders while they still trail Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants by eight points each.

RCB started off the game strongly by dominating the Powerplay, and carried this momentum into their chase. Phil Salt made an excellent debut with Virat Kohli supporting him ruthlessly punishing any looseness on their wicket.

They quickly established an 80/0 advantage after just the first powerplay had concluded.

Liam Livingstone kept Royal Challengers Bangalore ticking over and eventually won with five wickets to spare.

Though RCB have lost three out of their four home games this season, their unbeaten road record should give them hope that a win at M Chinnaswamy Stadium could help secure them a playoff berth.

RR are struggling to find their footing at M Chinnaswamy and their quest for victory has become more of an enigma than an answer. Their side’s balance remains uncertain while lacking an impact player has hindered rather than helped.

Rajasthan’s loss to RCB has further dimmed their playoff hopes, as they currently lie eighth in the standings with two wins from eight matches and are eighth overall with an unfavorable net run rate.

Although their chances may remain alive if they can improve upon their poor home form – their next home match against KKR on May 27 could prove decisive and lead to elimination for them.

KKR

The KKR-RCB rivalry is one of the oldest and highest-energy matches in IPL history. These two teams met for the inaugural game of the tournament at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore and was won by KKR with Brendon McCullum’s 158 not out being key in their victory – it marked the birth of franchise T20 leagues as part of cricket culture today.

When KKR and RCB first faced each other, the match was delayed by rain for more than an hour, forcing both teams to abandon their innings before eventually the weather conditions worsened further and caused the match to be abandoned without even one ball being bowled. When these two teams meet again, it will be up to KKR to bat first.

KKR have been one of the standout teams in IPL over the past decade and currently hold onto their title of champions. Their official motto is: “Korbo, Lorbo, Jeetbo” (Perform, Fight, Win). Over 26 meetings between these teams in IPL history, with SRH leading with 13 wins to 10 for RCB; these seven matches also took place at their respective home ground of Bengaluru with each side winning three times each time!

KKR’s top-order batsmen must up their game in order to take on a disciplined SRH attack. While AB de Villiers and Kohli can lead their side’s innings, they require additional support from Brendon McCullum and other batsmen such as Colin de Grandhomme and Yuzvendra Chahal in particular if they wish to succeed against an organized bowling attack like that from South India.

Colin de Grandhomme and Yuzvendra Chahal must improve their economy rates during powerplay overs.

After an uncertain start to their season, Sunrisers Hyderabad are beginning to find their feet and are emerging as strong contenders for the play-offs. Winning their remaining games while hoping for other results to go their way is essential; but this side boasts talent across their squad and batsmen are performing.

On Friday at 3.30pm at Eden Gardens, SRH will aim to continue their impressive form when they take on RCB in their final home league match of 2018. The match should get underway.

DD

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s dominant chase performance propelled them to the top of the IPL table, delighting Virat Kohli who will surely be pleased at how his side has come together recently.

Both sides are eager to qualify for playoffs this season, so this game may prove essential. Additionally, former captain Virender Sehwag may return as it marks his comeback into ODI action after an extended absence.
