Jaylen Brown
Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown remains questionable for Thursday’s matchup against Minnesota Timberwolves due to a shoulder strain, potentially opening up fantasy opportunities at wing positions for Sam Hauser and Payton Pritchard if he sits again. Additionally, this matchup should provide a rigorous defensive test which could limit any Celtics player’s effectiveness in fantasy formats.
The Boston Celtics started off the first quarter with an 12-0 run, building up an early 24-point advantage before Indiana rallied and took back control in the second quarter. Both teams traded buckets throughout that period; it remained close going into halftime. In the third quarter, however, Boston took control with a 20-5 run that featured three 3-pointers from Jaylen Brown; Indiana attempted to cut their deficit down but Boston responded with another run that featured four 2s and one 3-pointer from Tyrese Haliburton before finally closing out seven points between quarters 2 and 3.
Boston eventually prevailed and won 123-106 to record their fourth straight win against Indiana and extend their winning streak to nine games and break their tie with Dallas for most wins ever by breaking away with them for good. Even without star guard Tyrese Haliburton on their roster, backup point guard T.J. McConnell continues demonstrating his value off the bench.
McConnell posted 20 points off the bench and registered four rebounds, two assists, and one steal in Sunday’s 121-89 win against the Knicks. McConnell has been performing well recently and should see increased minutes as the season continues; his floor production number stands out among backup point guards while his shooting skills continue to advance.
McConnell scored 13 points on 6-for-11 shooting and handed out three rebounds during Tuesday’s 127-117 loss to the Celtics, providing valuable spark off the bench for Indiana. McConnell has scored in double figures six of his last eight games while being an effective distributor as the Pacers have been plus-10 with him on court this season.
Even while sick, McConnell played 22 minutes in the Pacers’ 113-109 loss to Charlotte Hornets on Monday and made an impactful contribution with 12 points on 5-for-16 shooting, four rebounds, two assists and one steal. McConnell is an effective bench option for Indiana and should see increased production throughout playoff play.
At halftime, the Pacers lead 71-64 thanks to early 3-pointers from Payton Pritchard and Jaylen Brown. Additionally, they’re getting great rebounding and creating plenty of second-chance points. McConnell has been an invaluable bench contributor, leading his team by 14 at halftime when on the floor and contributing some key scoring and playmaking moments in limited minutes. Should McConnell continue producing at such an impressive rate over time he may prove invaluable streaming value and increase chances for reaching the Finals with his presence alone!
Ben Sheppard
Ben Sheppard has proven himself an interesting piece for the Indiana Pacers this season, producing in limited minutes but already showing glimpses of future greatness. A superb rebounder and solid defender, his best skill lies in scoring in tight situations.
Fantasy managers might consider him an option this season due to his average of 4.2 points and 2.8 rebounds per game, making him a decent fantasy option but lacking enough minutes for starting purposes. Dustin Dopirak of The Indianapolis Star reports that he should start against Boston Celtics this Friday as well.
The Celtics will enter Thursday’s matchup full of confidence after scoring the most points this season in their win against the Pacers on Wednesday. Their pace should help them beat Indiana while taking advantage of defensive miscues by keeping pace with them and exploiting any defensive missteps from them.
